Dr. Herstoff’s starter job-board for undergrads
There are lots of job opportunities out there! You can work with the US government, state or local agencies, in non-profit or private sector careers, or continue on to pursue a higher degree, like a Master’s of Science (MS), Master’s of Arts (MA), or a doctorate of philosophy (Ph.D.).
Below, I have shared a chart I created where you can see where I recommend you start hunting for jobs. You will be able to scan down columns to get an idea of the types of jobs on offer. A caveat here- I’m an aquatics person, so I know the most about marine and freshwater job opportunities. This is reflected to some degree in the chart below. If that’s not what you’re interested in, reach out to me. I may know (or have a friend who will know) some pointers for you!
Even if you haven’t graduated college yet, there are lots of great opportunities for summer internships and research positions. Please reach out to talk to someone (including me!) about summer research opportunities at SFC and beyond!
For a very broad view on job-hunting and for some additional resources, I recommend checking out the University of Connecticut’s Ecology & Evolutionary Biology ‘Careers’ page. (link here: https://eeb.uconn.edu/resources/careers/#)
Remember, the job hunt can be tough. There’s a great job waiting for you out there, so stay focused on your long-term goals!
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you’d like to talk, and GOOD LUCK with your applications!
